This is a list of characters in the Harry Potter series. They are all characters who have appeared in a Harry Potter-related book by J. K. Rowling.

- Abbott, Hannah – Hufflepuff student in Harry Potter's year.[1] Prefect and member of Dumbledore's Army.[2] Married to Neville Longbottom.[1]

- Bagman, Ludo – Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports at the Ministry of Magic.[3]
- Bagshot, Bathilda – Author of A History of Magic, and the great-aunt of Gellert Grindelwald. Under the influence of Veritaserum, Bagshot was a major source of information for Rita Skeeter's biography of Albus Dumbledore.[4] Bagshot is portrayed by Hazel Douglas in the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010).[5]
- Bell, Katie – Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. She is one year above Harry and is a member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Binns, Cuthbert – Professor of History of Magic at Hogwarts and the only ghost professor at the school.
- Black, Phineas Nigellus – Great-great-grandfather of Sirius Black and former Hogwarts headmaster. His portrait hangs in the headmaster's office and assists the current headmaster.
- Black, Sirius – Harry's godfather and close friend of Harry's father James Potter. Escapee from Azkaban prison and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Killed in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries by his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange. Portrayed by Gary Oldman in the Harry Potter films.
- Black, Regulus – Death Eater and the younger brother of Sirius Black. Tried to destroy one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, but was killed by Inferi.
- Bones, Amelia – Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic, and aunt of Susan Bones. Killed by Voldemort.
- Bones, Susan – Hufflepuff student in Harry's year and member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Boot, Terry – Ravenclaw student in Harry's year and member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Brown, Lavender – Gryffindor student in Harry's year and member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Bulstrode, Millicent – Slytherin student in Harry's year. Member of Dolores Umbridge's Inquisitorial Squad.
- Burbage, Charity – Professor of Muggle Studies at Hogwarts. Killed by Voldemort.
- Bryce, Frank – Muggle gardener for the Riddle family. Killed by Voldemort. Bryce is portrayed by Eric Sykes in the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).

- Carrow, Alecto – Death Eater and sister of Amycus Carrow. Professor of Muggle Studies for one year, and Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts under Severus Snape.
- Carrow, Amycus – Death Eater and brother of Alecto Carrow. Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts for one year, and Deputy Headmaster of Hogwarts under Snape.
- Cattermole, Reginald – Employee of the Magical Maintenance Department at the Ministry of Magic. Impersonated by Ron Weasley using Polyjuice Potion.
- Chang, Cho – Seeker for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. One year above Harry, and his first love interest. Member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Clearwater, Penelope – Ravenclaw prefect and girlfriend of Percy Weasley.
- Crabbe – Death Eater and father of Vincent Crabbe.
- Crabbe, Vincent – Slytherin student in Harry's year and the son of a Death Eater. Beater on the Slytherin Quidditch team and member of the Inquisitorial Squad. Killed by his own Fiendfyre spell. Crabbe is portrayed by Jamie Waylett in the first six Harry Potter films.[6][7]
- Creevey, Colin – Muggle-born Gryffindor student one year below Harry. Older brother of Dennis Creevey, and member of Dumbledore's Army. Killed during the Battle of Hogwarts.
- Creevey, Dennis – Muggle-born Gryffindor student three years below Harry. Younger brother of Colin Creevey, and member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Cresswell, Dirk – Muggle-born head of the Goblin Liaison Office. Goes on the run with Ted Tonks, Dean Thomas and the goblins Gornuk and Griphook. Killed by Snatchers.
- Crouch, Barty Sr – Head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation. Killed by his son Barty Crouch Jr.
- Crouch, Barty Jr – Death Eater credited with facilitating the return of Voldemort. Impersonates Alastor Moody with Polyjuice Potion and receives a Dementor's Kiss. Crouch is portrayed by David Tennant in the Harry Potter films.

- Dawlish, John – An Auror.
- Delacour, Fleur – Participant in the Triwizard Tournament as the champion from Beauxbatons. Married to Bill Weasley.
- Delacour, Gabrielle – Fleur's younger sister. Rescued by Harry during the Triwizard Tournament.
- Diggle, Dedalus – Member of the Order of the Phoenix who takes the Dursleys into hiding.
- Diggory, Amos – Father of Cedric Diggory. Employee of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.
- Diggory, Cedric – Seeker for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team and prefect two years above Harry. Co-winner of the Triwizard Tournament with Harry. Killed by Peter Pettigrew on Voldemort's command. Portrayed by Robert Pattinson in the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).
- Dippet, Armando – Headmaster of Hogwarts before Albus Dumbledore. Expelled Rubeus Hagrid, who was framed for opening the Chamber of Secrets by Tom Riddle.
- Doge, Elphias – A school friend of Albus Dumbledore.
- Dolohov, Antonin – Death Eater who kills Fabian Prewett, Gideon Prewett, and Remus Lupin.
- Dumbledore, Aberforth – Brother of Albus and Ariana Dumbledore. Owner of the Hog's Head tavern.
- Dumbledore, Albus – Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts during Tom Riddle's school years, and headmaster during Harry's school years. Founder of the Order of the Phoenix. Killed by Severus Snape at Dumbledore's request. Portrayed by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the Harry Potter films, and by Jude Law in the Fantastic Beasts series.
- Dumbledore, Ariana – Sister of Albus and Aberforth Dumbledore. Killed during a three-way duel between Albus, Aberforth and Gellert Grindelwald.
- Dumbledore, Kendra – Wife of Percival Dumbledore. Mother of Albus, Aberforth and Ariana Dumbledore.
- Dumbledore, Percival – Husband of Kendra Dumbledore. Father of Albus, Aberforth and Ariana Dumbledore.
- Dursley, Dudley – Son of Vernon and Petunia Dursley, and cousin of Harry. Portrayed by Harry Melling in the Harry Potter films.[8]
- Dursley, Marge – Sister of Vernon Dursley who is accidentally inflated by Harry. Marge is portrayed by Pam Ferris in the film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004).
- Dursley, Petunia – Harry's aunt, Vernon's wife and Dudley's mother. In the Harry Potter films, Petunia is portrayed by Fiona Shaw (adult) and Ariella Paradise (child).
- Dursley, Vernon – Harry's uncle, Petunia's husband and Dudley's father. Vernon is portrayed by Richard Griffiths in the Harry Potter films.

- Edgecombe, Marietta – Ravenclaw student one year above Harry. Member of Dumbledore's Army who betrays the group to Dolores Umbridge.

- Figg, Arabella – Squib neighbour of the Dursleys. Member of the Order of the Phoenix.
- Filch, Argus – Squib caretaker of Hogwarts.
- Finch-Fletchley, Justin – Muggle-born Hufflepuff student in Harry's year. Member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Finnigan, Seamus – Gryffindor student in Harry's year. Member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Flamel, Nicolas – Creator of the Philosopher's Stone.
- Fletcher, Mundungus – Petty thief and shifty member of the Order of the Phoenix.
- Flitwick, Filius – Charms professor and the Head of Ravenclaw House at Hogwarts.
- Fudge, Cornelius – Minister for Magic in the first five novels. Removed from his position after denying Voldemort's return.

- Gaunt, Marvolo – The pure-blood father of Merope and Morfin Gaunt, and the grandfather of Tom Riddle.
- Gaunt, Merope – Tom Riddle's mother who died in childbirth.
- Gaunt, Morfin – Marvolo's son and Merope's brother. Framed by his nephew Tom Riddle for killing Muggles, and died in Azkaban.
- Goldstein, Anthony – Ravenclaw student in Harry's year. Member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Goyle – Death Eater and father of Gregory Goyle.
- Goyle, Gregory – Slytherin student in Harry's year. Beater for the Slytherin Quidditch team and member of the Inquisitorial Squad. Goyle is portrayed by Joshua Herdman in the Harry Potter films.
- Granger, Hermione – Muggle-born Gryffindor prefect in Harry's year, and one of his closest friends. Co-founder of Dumbledore's Army. Portrayed by Emma Watson in the Harry Potter films.
- Granger, Mr and Mrs – Hermione Granger's parents. During the Second Wizarding War, Hermione alters their memories to protect them from Voldemort, which causes them to believe they are Wendell and Monica Wilkins. She later restores their memories.[9]
- Greengrass, Astoria – Wife of Draco Malfoy who died in 2019 due to a blood curse.[10] She is portrayed by Jade Gordon in the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011).
- Gregorovitch – Highly regarded Eastern European wandmaker.
- Greyback, Fenrir – Werewolf working for the Death Eaters.
- Grindelwald, Gellert – Dark wizard who was imprisoned after Albus Dumbledore defeated him in the 1940s. In the Fantastic Beasts film series, Grindelwald and Dumbledore are former lovers who made a blood pact in their youth to never harm each other. However, Grindelwald attempts to indirectly kill Dumbledore. In the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010), Grindelwald is portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower (younger) and Michael Byrne (older). He is portrayed by Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), and by Mads Mikkelsen in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022). Campbell Bower plays a teenage version of the character in a brief flashback scene in Crimes of Grindelwald.[11]
- Grubbly-Plank, Wilhelmina – Substitute Care of Magical Creatures professor during Harry's fourth and fifth years.
- Gryffindor, Godric – One of the four founders of Hogwarts.

- Hagrid, Rubeus – Half-giant, Hogwarts gamekeeper, Care of Magical Creatures professor, and member of the Order of the Phoenix. He was expelled during his third year at Hogwarts. In the Harry Potter films, Hagrid is portrayed by Robbie Coltrane (adult) and Martin Bayfield (teenager).
- Hooch, Rolanda – Hogwarts flying instructor and Quidditch referee.
- Hopkirk, Mafalda – Ministry of Magic employee who is impersonated by Hermione Granger using Polyjuice Potion.
- Hufflepuff, Helga – One of the four founders of Hogwarts.

- Johnson, Angelina – Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and later team captain. She is two years above Harry.
- Jordan, Lee – Gryffindor student two years above Harry. Hogwarts Quidditch commentator and close friend of Fred and George Weasley.
- Jorkins, Bertha – Employee at the Department of Magical Games and Sports. Killed by Voldemort in order to transform his snake Nagini into a Horcrux.

- Karkaroff, Igor – Reformed Death Eater. Headmaster of the wizarding school Durmstrang.
- Krum, Viktor – Bulgarian Quidditch Seeker and Durmstrang student who participates in the Triwizard Tournament. Krum is portrayed by Stanislav Ianevski in the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).
- Kettleburn, Silvanus – Care of Magical Creatures professor until Harry's third year.
L
- Lestrange, Bellatrix – Death Eater who tortured Neville Longbottom's parents into insanity. Killed her cousin Sirius Black. Killed by Molly Weasley during the Battle of Hogwarts. Bellatrix is portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter in the Harry Potter films.
- Lockhart, Gilderoy – Fraudulent celebrity author and Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. Loses his memory after a spell backfires. Lockhart is portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002).
- Longbottom, Alice and Frank – Neville's parents. Aurors and members of the Order of the Phoenix. Tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange.
- Longbottom, Augusta – Frank's mother and Neville's grandmother. She raises Neville after his parents are incapacitated. Augusta is portrayed by Leila Hoffman in the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001).
- Longbottom, Neville – Gryffindor student in Harry's year. Member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Lovegood, Luna – Ravenclaw student one year below Harry. Member of Dumbledore's Army and daughter of Xenophilius Lovegood.
- Lovegood, Xenophilius – Luna's father and the editor of the tabloid magazine The Quibbler. Rhys Ifans portrays Xenophilius in the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010).
- Lupin, Remus – School friend of Sirius Black, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts in Harry's third year, and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Werewolf. He and his wife Nymphadora Tonks die during the Battle of Hogwarts.
- Lupin, Teddy – Orphaned son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks and godson of Harry Potter. He is named after Tonks's father, Ted Tonks. Teddy is a metamorphmagus like his mother.[12]

- Macnair, Walden – Death Eater and executioner who fails to execute the hippogriff Buckbeak. Injured by Hagrid during the Battle of Hogwarts.
- Malfoy, Draco – Slytherin student in Harry's year. Quidditch Seeker, prefect, member of the Inquisitorial Squad and eventual Death Eater. Tom Felton portrays Draco in the Harry Potter films.
- Malfoy, Lucius – Death Eater. Father of Draco and husband of Narcissa Malfoy. Governor of Hogwarts early in the series.
- Malfoy, Narcissa – Lucius's wife and Draco's mother. Sister of Bellatrix Lestrange and Andromeda Tonks. Narcissa is portrayed by Helen McCrory in the Harry Potter films.
- Malfoy, Scorpius – Slytherin student and friend of Albus Potter. Son of Draco Malfoy and Astoria Greengrass.
- Malkin, Madam – Clothing shop owner in Diagon Alley.
- Marchbanks, Griselda – Governor of the Wizarding Examinations Authority.
- Maxime, Olympe – Half-giantess and headmistress of Beauxbatons. Portrayed by Frances de la Tour in the Harry Potter films.
- Macmillan, Ernie – Hufflepuff student in Harry's year. Prefect and member of Dumbledore's Army.
- McGonagall, Minerva – Transfiguration professor, Head of Gryffindor House, Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts, and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Headmistress after Voldemort's death.
- Midgen, Eloise – Gryffindor student who accidentally removed her nose trying to get rid of her acne.
- McLaggen, Cormac – Gryffindor student one year above Harry. Quidditch Keeper and member of the Slug Club. Freddie Stroma portrays McLaggen in the Harry Potter films.
- Montague, Graham – Chaser for the Slytherin Quidditch team who became trapped inside a Vanishing Cabinet for a day.
- Moody, Alastor – Retired Auror and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Known as "Mad-Eye Moody". Impersonated by Barty Crouch Jr as part of his scheme to enter Harry into the Triwizard Tournament. Moody is killed by Voldemort.

- Nott, Theodore – Slytherin student in Harry's year. Son of a Death Eater.
- Nott – Father of Theodore Nott. Death Eater.

- Ogden, Bob – Leader of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement Squad in the 1920s. Turned the Gaunt family over to the Wizengamot for using magic in front of a Muggle.
- Ollivander, Garrick – Wandmaker and owner of Ollivanders wand shop. Kidnapped by the Malfoy family for several months until freed by Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Ollivander is portrayed by John Hurt in the Harry Potter films.

- Parkinson, Pansy – Slytherin student in Harry's year. Prefect and member of the Inquisitorial Squad. Rowling said Parkinson was based on real-life girls who teased her at school.[13]
- Patil, Padma – Ravenclaw student in Harry's year. Identical twin sister of Parvati Patil. Member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Patil, Parvati – Gryffindor student in Harry's year. Identical twin sister of Padma Patil. Member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Pettigrew, Peter – Death Eater and school friend of Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Harry's father James Potter. Pettigrew betrays Harry's parents to Voldemort, resulting in their deaths. It is revealed that Ron's pet rat Scabbers is actually Pettigrew in his animagus form. Pettigrew is strangled to death by his own prosthetic hand.
- Antioch, Cadmus, and Ignotus Peverell – Three brothers who were the original owners of the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone and the Invisibility Cloak, respectively.
- Pince, Irma – Hogwarts librarian.
- Podmore, Sturgis – Member of the Order of the Phoenix.
- Pomfrey, Poppy – Hogwarts school nurse.
- Potter, Harry – Orphaned son of James and Lily Potter. Gryffindor student at Hogwarts, and co-founder and leader of Dumbledore's Army. Husband of Ginny Weasley and father of three children: James Sirius, Albus Severus and Lily Luna.
- Potter, James – Harry's father and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Killed by Voldemort.
- Potter, Lily – Harry's mother and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Killed by Voldemort.
- Potter, Albus Severus – Second child of Harry and Ginny.
- Potter, James Sirius – First child of Harry and Ginny.

- Quirinus Quirrell – Defence Against the Dark Arts professor in Harry Potter's first year. Possessed by Lord Voldemort.

- Helena Ravenclaw/The Grey Lady – Daughter of house founder Rowena Ravenclaw. Stole and hid her mother's diadem, and became Ravenclaw's house ghost after being killed by the Bloody Baron.
- Rowena Ravenclaw – One of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and founder of the Ravenclaw house.
- Delphi Riddle – The main antagonist of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and daughter of Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange who tries to bring Voldemort back to life by completing a prophecy. Currently imprisoned in Azkaban.
- Mary Riddle – Muggle wife of Thomas Riddle, mother of Tom Riddle Sr. and grandmother of Tom Marvolo Riddle/Lord Voldemort. Killed by her grandson, Lord Voldemort.
- Thomas Riddle – Muggle husband of Mary Riddle, father of Tom Riddle Sr. and grandfather of Tom Marvolo Riddle/Lord Voldemort. Killed by his grandson Lord Voldemort.
- Tom Riddle Sr. – Muggle son of Thomas and Mary Riddle, husband of Merope Gaunt and father of Tom Marvolo Riddle/Lord Voldemort Killed by his son, Lord Voldemort.
- Tom Marvolo Riddle – Slytherin student who became Lord Voldemort.
- Demelza Robins – Gryffindor student and Quidditch Chaser.
- Augustus Rookwood – Death Eater and spy working in the Department of Mysteries.
- Thorfinn Rowle – Death Eater.
- Albert Runcorn – Ministry of Magic employee whose chief function was as an investigator of alleged Muggle-borns.

- Newt Scamander – Magizoologist and author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Main character in the Fantastic Beasts film series. Expelled Hogwarts student who excels in curing different sicknesses.
- Rufus Scrimgeour – Head of the Auror Office who replaces Cornelius Fudge as Minister for Magic. Killed by Death Eaters.
- Kingsley Shacklebolt – Auror and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Replaces Pius Thicknesse as Minister for Magic.
- Stan Shunpike – Conductor of the triple-decker Knight Bus. Jailed in Azkaban on suspicions of being a Death Eater. Stan was portrayed by Lee Ingleby in the film adaptation of Prisoner of Azkaban.
- Aurora Sinistra – Astronomy professor at Hogwarts.
- Rita Skeeter – Reporter and tabloid journalist for the Daily Prophet. It has been speculated that the fraught relationship between Rowling and the press was the inspiration for the author to develop the character. However, Rowling noted in 2000 that the character actually predates her rise to fame.[14] Rita was intended to be in Philosopher's Stone, as Rowling revealed in an interview: "you know when Harry walks into the Leaky Cauldron for the first time and everyone says, "Mr. Potter you're back!", I wanted to put a journalist in there. She wasn't called Rita then but she was a woman. And then I thought, as I looked at the plot overall, I thought, that's not really where she fits best, she fits best in Four when Harry's supposed to come to terms with his fame".[15] Miranda Richardson appeared as Rita in the film adaptation of Goblet of Fire as well as in Deathly Hallows.[16]
- Horace Slughorn – Former Hogwarts Potions professor and Head of Slytherin House, whose charges included Tom Riddle. Returned to Hogwarts to teach Potions in Harry's sixth year.
- Salazar Slytherin – One of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and founder of the Slytherin house.
- Zacharias Smith – Hufflepuff Quidditch Chaser in Harry's year. Member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Severus Snape – Potions and later Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. Head of Slytherin House, and member of both the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix as a double agent spying for Dumbledore.
- Alicia Spinnet – Gryffindor student two years above Harry. Quidditch Chaser and member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Pomona Sprout – Hogwarts Herbology professor and Head of Hufflepuff House.

- Pius Thicknesse – Minister for Magic while under the Imperius Curse. Replaced by Kingsley Shacklebolt.
- Dean Thomas – Gryffindor student in Harry's year. Member of Dumbledore's Army.
- Andromeda Tonks – Sister of Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy, and the mother of Nymphadora Tonks. Disowned by her family for marrying Muggle-born Ted Tonks.
- Nymphadora Tonks – Ted and Andromeda's daughter. Auror and member of the Order of the Phoenix. She marries Remus Lupin and becomes the mother of a son, Teddy, before she and Remus are killed in the Battle of Hogwarts.
- Ted Tonks – Andromeda's Muggle-born husband, and the father of Nymphadora Tonks. Killed by Snatchers.
- Sybill Trelawney – Hogwarts Divination professor. Predicted the prophecy that prompted Lord Voldemort to go after the Potters.
- Wilkie Twycross – Hogwarts Apparition instructor who works in the Department of Magical Transportation.

- Dolores Umbridge – Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic, Hogwarts High Inquisitor and temporary Headmistress of Hogwarts. She becomes Defence Against the Dark Arts professor in Harry Potter's fifth year, and joins in the persecution of half-bloods and Muggle-borns under Voldemort. Sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban.

- Emmeline Vance – Member of the Order of the Phoenix. Killed by Death Eaters.
- Romilda Vane – Gryffindor student who unsuccessfully tries to romance Harry.
- Septima Vector – Arithmancy professor at Hogwarts.
- Lord Voldemort (Tom Marvolo Riddle) – The villain of the series. Murderer of Harry Potter's parents and many others in his quest for immortality and absolute power.
W
- Myrtle Warren/Moaning Myrtle[17] – Muggle-born Ravenclaw student during Tom Riddle's time at Hogwarts. Killed by the Basilisk in a girls' bathroom, which she continued to haunt after her death. Tom Riddle used her death to create his first Horcrux: his diary.[18] Rowling revealed on her website that Myrtle was in Ravenclaw House[19] and that her full name was Myrtle Elizabeth Warren.[20] She added that the inspiration for the character was "the frequent presence of a crying girl in communal bathrooms, especially at the parties and discos of my youth."[21] Shirley Henderson plays Myrtle in the film versions of Chamber of Secrets and Goblet of Fire. The character was omitted from Half-Blood Prince.
- Arthur Weasley – Muggle-obsessed Ministry of Magic employee, and member of the Order of the Phoenix. Husband of Molly Weasley, father of Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny Weasley.

- Muggle Prime Minister - The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, referred to as the Muggle Prime Minister by wizards, is aware of the existence of the wizarding world. Rowling intended to include the Prime Minister scene in earlier books, but she thought that it could not properly fit until the sixth book.[23] He is protected by an Auror, Kingsley Shacklebolt.

- Nagini – Lord Voldemort's massive pet snake that does his bidding. She is one of Voldemort's Horcruxes who is ultimately slain by Neville Longbottom during the Battle of Hogwarts.
- Nearly Headless Nick – Gryffindor house ghost. Full name is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington.
- Norbert – A baby dragon illegally owned by Hagrid who is relocated to a reserve in Romania by friends of Ron's older brother Charlie Weasley.

- Peeves – Hogwarts poltergeist, a mischievous magical being.
- Pigwidgeon – A tiny mischievous owl belonging to Ron Weasley. Called "Pig" for short.

- Madam Rosmerta – Proprietor of The Three Broomsticks inn in Hogsmeade village. Julie Christie appeared as Madam Rosmerta in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
- Ronan – A centaur living in the Forbidden Forest.

- Scabbers – Ron Weasley's pet rat in the first three stories who is revealed to be a wizard in animal form: Peter Pettigrew.

- The Weird Sisters – a wizarding rock band. They performed three songs (all composed by Cocker): "Do the Hippogriff", "This Is the Night" and "Magic Works".[24] A full music video of the band playing at the Yule Ball is included as an extended scene on the Goblet of Fire DVD. In 2005, Warner Bros., the international distributor of Goblet of Fire, was sued for trademark violations by members of a Canadian band named the Wyrd Sisters.[25][26] In the Goblet of Fire film, the band was played by the following musicians:
