Why was this article renamed? I don't understand the necessity for the change. Should it be changed back? Chris Jefferies 11:54, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Somebody has been moving articles about places in Northants to XXX, Northamptonshire for no apparent reason, they even moved Daventry even though there's only one place called Daventry. So I've been putting them back again. G-Man 18:26, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
There is a Daventry in the USA - as there are with many UK place names - and so my move clearly separates the two. Brookie:A glow in the dark 15:24, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Brookie here - who sensibly I thought had been adding counties to the names of villages and towns in Northampton. It seems to clealry identify the places from their namesakes in the UK and particularly in America - think G-Man has called this one badly. Brookie:A glow in the dark 15:20, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Sorry Brookie, I very much agree wih G-Man on this. It is not a good idea to rename articles wholesale. There's no need to do this, generally in Wikipedia the first article called xyz gets to keep this name, then if there's a later need for xyz, California, it takes the modified form. And it's definitely a bad idea to work systematically through a county doing this. Please put these pages back as they were. Thanks. Chris Jefferies 19:02, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
This situation is becoming serious. Brookie you are doing real harm here, and by adding content to the redirect pages you are now escalating matters because administrators must now be asked to move the pages back. I hope this action is merely thoughtless, not deliberate. Please do not move further pages. Wikipedia functions as well as it does because most of us respect consensus. You are moving pages because you think it's a good idea, but I, G-Man, Susvolans, and Saga City have all expressed our disagreement. I hope you will respect the fact that four out of five of us do not believe the pages should be moved.
You are also contravening the naming conventions which recommends a comma, not a dash, and also recommends no modifier be used when a placename is unique in Wikipedia. Chris Jefferies 00:01, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I've just gone through and undone half a dozen of these. violet/riga (t) 16:10, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move back to Thrapston

[edit]
  • Support I first noticed this with Raunds; I cannot see the point in giving any article a longer name than is necessary - it puts more words into the category pages, etc and reduces the chance of it picking up the redlinks in other articles Saga City 21:32, May 1, 2005 (UTC)

There is a short discussion of some of the issues at the top of this page. Chris Jefferies 20:56, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been renamed as the result of a move request. While there is no other article currently claiming this title this should remain here. If another comes along the decision should be made on a case-by-case basis. violet/riga (t) 15:36, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
