old section for clarity

[edit]

The article was quite poorly written, so I had a go at improving much of the grammar. I don't think that I got all of the mistakes, so if anyone could proof read it, that'd be great. --ChinaNailStorm 18:03, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest moving this article to Tourism in Japan like many other "Tourism in ..." articles. --Lorenzarius 02:45 22 Jul 2003 (UTC)

I have no objections -- cheers, --synthetik 09:16 22 Jul 2003 (UTC)
OK, moved. --Lorenzarius 13:04 22 Jul 2003 (UTC)

The allegation of a copyright violation is incorrect. I wrote many parts of this article, and my contributions are all original. My contributions are present on the external web site. The web site copied my contributions from Wikipedia, not the reverse.

If you look closely at this diff, you will see some sections that are different from the cited copyvio "source". The old rev in that diff is significant, because it is when the Travelling tips section was added, and it is not likely that both pages came up with the same format for that section independently. So, at that point, we can reasonably establish that one site copied from the other; and, since the first rev with that section on wikipedia is different than the current version on the cited page, it seems that ours was the source and gradually evolved into the current version, which is nearly the same as what is on the cited page. On the cited page, the wording matches our version on April 11, which is not a surprise since the cited page has an updated date at the bottom for the last time they (presumably) trolled wikipedia for the info. It sounds like you have a point there. I'll re-revert. Most of the material will have to be rewritten anyway, because it reads like a travel guide rather than an encyclopedia entry. NeonMerlin 06:51, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fg2, as a contributor to the article, you may want to pursue GFDL compliance with them. The page recommends that contributors be the one who contacts the offending site. Feel free to use my "proof", though.  :-) Neier 13:16, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've already sent an e-mail. NeonMerlin 15:10, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite

[edit]

This should be an encyclopedic article about the popular tourist attractions in Japan, the demographics and motivations of tourists, and the economic impact of tourism. Instead, it's a travel guide, and Wikipedia is specifically not a place for travel guides. As well, this article has no references. NeonMerlin 07:05, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that link. I followed it and found this text: "Travel guides. An article on Paris should mention landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, but not the telephone number or street address of your favorite hotel or the price of a café au lait on the Champs-Élysées. Such details are, however, very welcome at Wikitravel, but note that due to license incompatibility you cannot copy content wholesale unless you are the copyright holder." In reading Tourism in Japan, I do find things along the lines of landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. The link says they should be mentioned in the article so obviously that information should stay in place. I cannot find anything analogous to favorite hotels or price of coffee, that is, things that are inappropriate. So if you can identify which information is inappropriate according to the guideline you cited, it would be a good starting point for improving the article. Regarding references, demographics, motivations of tourists, and economic impact of tourism, I agree that they would be valuable additions to the article, and if you have factual information on those subjects to contribute, Wikipedia will welcome such contributions. Horyu-ji

[edit]

Sorry. I made a mistake. Horyu-ji does have 115 National Treasures & 1,955 important cultural properties according to Nara Tourism Federation website. [1] --220.212.0.120 11:21, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

picture

[edit]

The picture used for this article [2] is ridiculous. In the two years I'd been in Japan, I only saw one (1) rickshaw. The picture tells more about whoever decided to use it in the article then it does about tourism in Japan. If we really have to go with a terribly stereotipycal portrayal of tourism in Japan, there's got to be a gazillion Kinkaku-ji or mt. Fuji pictures out there that could be used. The "current status" seems out of date

[edit]

Maybe just delete this section entirely? The chart of statistics seems to tell a different and perhaps more correct story. 72.66.109.170 (talk) 17:21, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
