The following images are from the Portraits from the Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology.[1] Some of which are in the public domain (due to age).[citation needed]

Note however www.sil.si.edu/permissions which states: "Smithsonian Libraries provides free and open access to its digital images and the images may be freely downloaded for personal, research and study purposes only".

As of June, 13 2005 all articles in this list have images, except for (1) non-existent articles; and (2) articles for which the image may be new enough to attract copyright protection, e.g. Carl David Anderson. These articles are marked with a dagger †.
