[edit]I thought we were using launch dates to identify un-hull-numbered ships rather than types? There are some cases where the multiple ships are of the same type, plus that's how the example in the Wikiproject reads, although it doesn't actually make an explicit assertion. Does the Tippecanoe count? After all, the first sentence says "have borne the name", but then the first words are "Four ships", even though it lists five. -- John Owens 08:10 Mar 31, 2003 (UTC)
- Apparently not - the navy's own count says four. I've seen this before; perhaps if it's for a short period and the ship is borrowed, it's just "ship named Foo" and not "United States Ship Foo". Stan 13:57 Mar 31, 2003 (UTC)
