Rankings section
[edit]Magnolia677 removed the Rankings section as "promotional cruft". I have reverted this deletion as I think it deserves discussion and I would like to better understand the reason for deletion. ~Kvng (talk) 11:22, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Kvng: The edit you reverted [1] added back a long list of rankings which did not improve the article, and appeared biased and promotion, per WP:PROMO and WP:NPOV. Rankings are also not endorsed by WP:USCITIES. For example:
- "The city frequently receives high rankings in art, health, well-being, quality of life, and education" - sourced by the city website.
- "Top 10 Cities for Artists – No. 8 – 2007 - Business Week" - sourced is the city website.
- The input of others about promotional rankings would be appreciated. Magnolia677 (talk) 15:37, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia articles are not an extension of websites, press releases, or other social media marketing efforts. That is a description of these rankings. These annual promotions are interesting but become dated very quickly. While they may point to a subject that could be expanded on using reliable sources, they do not belong in city articles. Thanks for the discussion. I agree that there are some bad entries here. I don't see any mention of rankings in WP:USCITIES. I would think that if a city is ranked and then that ranking is reported by a reliable source independent of the city or whoever is doing the ranking, it could be included. It is true that many of these go stale quickly. It's nice not to have to do the maintenance but Wikipedia can handle it better than other outlets. Boulder consistently appears in the top 10 in certain categories. If there's a reliable source reporting that, and I believe that's the case, it would be a durable entry. ~Kvng (talk) 12:35, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
Notable People
[edit]How about Nobel laureates Eric Cornell and Thomas Cech? I’m pretty sure Cornell lives in Boulder. Both are CU professors. Physics and chemistry seem at least as notable as rock balancing. 2601:281:8081:A410:80FF:3E6B:A584:A5D4 (talk) 19:54, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
Future Transit Plans
[edit]I've added paragraph on the Front Range Passenger Rail proposal, which I believe is the most current. The paragraphs that follow are for earlier proposals (2012, 2016) which I suspect are now superseded/abandoned, but haven't found info to confirm this. Any volunteers to check this, and amend as necessary? Kokopelli-UK (talk) 20:42, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
Rocky Mountain Joe
[edit]surprised there's no Wikipedia article, or AFAICT even mention of, famous photographer and storyteller Rocky Mountain Joe Sturtevant, a Boulder institution. (Most recently reminded of Joe's work while researching Fort Chambers, Boulder Poor Farm in Valmont, Colorado.) I seem to recall an unfavorable experience ☹️ trying to start a new WP article, so not prepared to do so, but will contribute if others can get it started. Boulder's Documentary that was featured on PBS
[edit]I know I'm a little bias because I was apart of the documentary; however I think "This Is (not) Who We Are" should be on here. 2600:1700:8B81:6A00:B51D:FFEA:B958:185 (talk) 09:29, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
