I am endeavouring to make this page NPOV, and it's a challenge! Be aware that there are some strong opinions among organ builders and fanciers, who tend to be both passionate and well-read in their subject.

Thus, many web pages describe a particular point of view, and it tends from my initial research to be both a fairly radical and an American view, neither of which should be surprising. Many organ builders in the wider world adopt a more traditional approach than for example

which gives the impression that the traditional stop names are now obsolete. This is by no means agreed! New organs are still being built using these traditional names.
